In the past I did a post about how my skin was loving oil pulling. (You can find that post here) For a whole year my skin was thriving on Oil Cleansing. It wasn’t until the last couple months that I started seeing a dramatic decline in the condition of my face. It all started when I would apply my liquid foundation and my skin looked like I was wearing a pound of powder. Not only was my makeup application failing, my skin just felt extremely tight and dry. I decided I would go for a dermaplaning session with a esthetician. I was so taken back when she said that my current acne issue wasn’t associated with hormones but was probably my face care routine. I think the old products I had are amazing and would definitely recommend them to others. The esthetician explained that every so often we need to switch up our products because our face gets desensitized to their power. I decided I was going to stop what I had been doing and start a new routine. My old routine consisted of three products. An oil cleanser, a balanced toner and an oil moisturizer. My new routine is now consisting of a cleansing gel, a toner, serum, moisturizer with an SPF and a once a week enzyme scrub. I wanted to let you guys know what I am currently using and why I decided on these products.
Most people identify Vitamin C as our immune systems best friend. But did you know that Vitamin C helps the body make collagen? Collagen is an important protein used to make skin, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. Because collagen is so important in the production of our skin it only makes sense that we would be using some sort of Vitamin C on our face. All day our skin is exposed to environmental aggressors such as pollution and UV rays both of which create free radicals. Free Radicals in turn break down collagen which causes those all dreaded wrinkles. I have been told many times that it’s never to early to start taking care of your skin. I am taking that advice and running with it. I hope you will do the same. I am a huge advocate of clean living and clean eating but if I don’t take care of my skin, I will be a healthy woman with premature aging. NO thanks!
1.) Intense Defense-Cleansing Gel
I start my routine off by using this cleansing gel. Once in the morning and once at night. This is an awesome light weight gel that doesn’t get too sudsy but definitely does its job. Might I mention that it smells so invigorating. This is the perfect pick me up for those tired mornings.
2.) Brilliant Balance-Hydrating Toner
Avalon Organics does offer toner in the Vitamin C line but I decided to go with the Brilliant Balance line because it contains Prebiotics. While probiotics ward off the bad bacteria, prebiotics help feed the good bacteria. This helps loosen dead, dulling skin cells. I am a lavender lover so it was a total perk that it smelt like heaven.
3.) Intense Defense-Facial Serum
Before putting on my moisturizer, I rub this facial serum on my entire face. This face serum targets those dreaded wrinkles, fine lines and nasty sun spots. I live in the desert and even when its cold, the sun is shining pretty darn bright. My mom started struggling with sunspots at a very young age so I am starting to take preventative measures.
4.) Intense Defense- Sheer Moisturizer SPF 10
I end my face care with this awesome moisturizer that contains SPF. Sometimes we are deceived into thinking that because its not sunny outside our skin can’t possibly be getting sunburned. That is a huge lie and it’s actually quite opposite. Higher rays are detected when the sky is in an overcast state. So be sure you are following your cleanser with a moisturizer that contains an SPF.
5.) Brilliant Balance- Enzyme Scrub
This last product is not something that I am using on the daily. I am on a schedule to visit my esthetician every six weeks. I wanted to be sure I had something at home that could be sort of a maintenance for my face. This scrub is the perfect option. It contains finely ground walnut shells which gently exfoliates dead skin cells. This product also contains the prebiotics and cucumber for calming effects. I used this product for the first time tonight and guys, it was amazing. I wish I had taken before and after pictures. My face was noticeably brighter. Even my hubs saw a difference. Be sure you avoid putting this product near your eyes since the skin around your eyes is extremely delicate.
Well guys I hope you have enjoyed popping into my bathroom for some product reviews. This skin care line is rocking my socks. I am also a huge fan of the fact that all of their products contain NO GMOs, parabens, harsh sulfates or preservatives, synthetic colors or fragrances, phthalates or animal testing. If you are looking for products that can aid in collagen production, this is a line for you. I got all of my products from Sprouts but I was totally stoked when I found them on Amazon.
Until next time,
